the gifted children is a collective of musicians from rochester and buffalo, ny.

they’ve released 5 albums and 15 EPs in the past 2 years alone, and have recorded more than 1300 songs in their 15 year career… they specialize in concise, compelling, slightly cryptic and off-kilter pop songs, laced with shoegazer atmospherics and electronic noise. lyrics are literate, vivid and slightly obtuse.

the gifted children live show is an energetic mixture of pop songwriting genius, expert knob-twiddling, great harmonies and off-the-cuff banter. approachable and self-deprecating, they become fast friends with their audiences.

Locatie CHICAGO, US

Following her last release, Light Year, Jenny Gillespie has ratcheted up the lush ambientalization in segments of Kindred to a point that the opener, Golden Central, slowly becomes a vast environment of ringing echoes, cross-wafting spirits, hazy golden fogs, grey skies, and memory-lost impingements, Gillespie’s voice pealing forth in baroque lament amid lazily swirling hinterlands and the lapse of Summer into warm Fall, but a fall nonetheless. Then Secret Passageway reverses speed while retaining topography, almost impossibly slow while dreamily alive and hazily glowing, pensive and lethargic.

We are a Norwegian pop quintet living and making music in our home town, Oslo. We have been playing together for around three years, and during 2009 we won the Norwegian broadcast competition of “Best new live-band”, Zoom. This won us a tour of Norway! So we toured 16 cities of our beautiful country and learned lots while we met all sorts of great people and got to fish salmon in a huge river, eat dried reindeer heart and party backstage with smelly rockers. We also got some songs aired on Norwegian radios A- and B-lists, played the ØYA-festival and By:Larm and  released our first EP “A Dance Of Victory The Morning After”. Great fun. We are still working hard but mostly enjoying the possibilities to play concerts, be creative and share good moments and music.

Our debut album, Hunting for Treasures, is out January 24th!

“Does this count as twee? Perhaps it does, at least the sinister side of it, the lopsided grin of the joke gone too far, the failed attempt at being nice which ends up in tears. Men Diamler is pure mental, he sings about cats and suicide and screams “one of these days you’ll feel much better”. He gets up and runs about like his arse is on fire. He makes us all sing along. Thing is, we feel better right away”

Genre: Folk Rock / Indie / Pop

Locatie Manchester, United Kingdom

Manchester’s James have always been an anomalous pop phenomenon. Initially too idiosyncratic and uncompromising to fit even on as libertarian an imprint as Factory Records, for whom they made their debut in 1983, and always too insular and awkward to give hometown contemporaries The Smiths sleepless nights, when they did eventually hit chart pay dirt, at the turn of the 90s, it was with their distinctive t-shirt range as much as a line in empathetic, route one anthems.

A more reflective, sonically spacious, Eno-assisted period followed, garnering them a further smattering of hits along the way and birthing explorative, ambient detours like 1994’s Wah Wah, although few would have been surprised when, after a brief, fin de siècle rally, Tim Booth and co knocked the band on the head in 2001. They re-emerged in 2007, as the likes of Coldplay and Elbow were wooing millions with versions of the same sensitive, agonised rock that James had patented a decade-and-half before, the very same millions who largely ignored their 2008, Hey Ma comeback album.

THE FAMILY SECRET Finally, in a music world where things seem to only fit more closely into genre specific boxes, comes the album No Depression calls …like nothing else out there… truly spectacular. John Carter Cash s CD The Family Secret oversteps these boundaries so firmly in place and follows only one rule: the rule of the heart. This album covers new ground, blending various styles and influence. The music is diverse, yet clearly defined by John Carter s inimitable style and writing. There are elements of hard rock here, just as evidentially heard as those of traditional country music and folk. The Family Secret mainly showcases John Carter as a writer, showing depth and intrigue, from the dark and searching Cab Casket to the rumpus and fun title song, the listener is taken for a journey they will not forget. No One Gets Out of Here Alive is a soul searching prayer, while Killarney , an eight minute Irish folk ballad, tells a tale of lost love, tragedy and finally hope.

2010 sees J. A. coming back with a home-recorded live Lp, For a ghost (in a room session), made of inedit stuff and revisited prior songs. A new studio album, Kamikaze planning holidays, is then to be released in February 2011 (Escape Fantasy – Les Disques Normal – Believe), featuring the belgian artist Half asleep, and mastered by Bruno Green. It brings out the music’s flesh & bones, as well as an autobiographic urgency in the lyrics.
