Feel that heart string being tugged? Then Case Mayfield’s cunning plan has worked. Intelligent folk, sometimes fragile, sometimes experimental but always passionate. His lyrics are moving, and his vocals a perfect fit for the style he carries. Whilst living in Amsterdam he hooked up with the Amsterdam Songwriters Guild (ASG), a brilliant group of songwriters and musicians who showed him the ropes.

Case released his self-titled debut EP with Ro Halfhide as producer. Ro Halfhide produced both Lucky Fonz III’s debut album as his ‘Life Is Short’ (2007), and produced his latest album Hoe Je Honing Maakt’ (2010).

THE IAIN AD VENTURE Iain Matthews and Ad Vanderveen first met in Amsterdam, in the spring of 2000, right after Matthews had reversed his 1973 transatlantic journey and returned home to Europe. Vanderveen was searching for a means to display his songwriting talents to a wider audience and Matthews was on the lookout for a like minded, guitar playing, vocalizing sidekick. What ultimately developed was far beyond either of their expectations. There’s an old saying, that ‘the cream always rises to the top’ and it would appear to be true for this pair, as over the next several months they were to become one of the most sought after Americana duos on the continent.

Kashmere Hakim, some also call him the ‘Hillsinger’.

They call him Hillsinger for his for his fragile, folky tunes that make you think of laying on your back on a hill somewhere in a valley of Scotland, or think about a border-less field of green.

Although he was born in the eighties, Kashmere Hakim has always been truly fascinated by the 60’s & 70’s folk music scene. A time where people would really listen and find comfort in music, often discussing and asking each other if the music had something to say. In the tradition of folksingers Kashmere Hakim songs tell a story.

Grizzly Adams is the best band in town. Utrecht, that is. The writer of this biography won’t submit any facts to prove this bold statement. He feels sorry for that, but just a little. Faith and above all, a dark room with closed curtains, empty whiskey glasses, broken records and a dead plant are enough to convince even you, enjoyer of life and expert on deep valleys.
Grizzly Adams has something that some people describe as ‘real’, others as ‘mad’ and we as ‘ingenious’. The songs, often (and not without reason) written from the view of a man who lost everything and found true love in return, are breath taking and won’t let you go easily. Goddeau, the respected webmagazine from Flanders, called predecessor Boy Ler “the best thing in Dutch rockmusic since the 21st century”.

The new album evokes the feeling of an unhurried summer afternoon, hanging on the swing in your parent’s back-yard, no pressure to do anything at all. And while you are hanging there you dream of what you will do when you grow up. Janne sings about numerous topics in this daydream-like state on this very personal album: from her non-existent Italian family, the rebellious pencils on her desk that are not allowed to sign official documents, but also how a weather alarm can bring about romance. Her particularly warm voice indicates seriousness, but her lyrics are often light and funny – a nice contrast.

In spring 2009, ME travelled to the town of Hamden, put on an old preacher’s suit, and set up camp in an old and empty church. He’d spent half the winter in bed at home in Amsterdam, feeling ill, tired, and generally miserable, even having to cancel a tour with at the close of every day. In the end, music seemed the only possible cure.
