This must be the ghost of Syd Barrett who is recorded onto dictaphone.
32 tiny songs full of tape hiss and reverb. You always hear the click of the record button at the beginning, then some pretty remindable melodies, a whispering voice and ghosts that speaks through the tape hiss. Then clicks the stop button and the ghosts voices are still present in your room, in your head. But they would not harm you. They are like friends.

This album sees Robb revisiting his folk club songwriting roots. The majority of the 14 tracks on the album were written for the monthly Hove Folk Club that he’s been running since September 2008. Robb set out to write a new song for each folk club night, and rediscovered just how enjoyable playing an acoustic guitar is – that’s why the album includes two instrumentals, as well as Johnson’s trademark capacity to write intelligently about issues as diverse as love, kids, the war in Afghanistan, the condition of Albion, saving the world, pubs and meeting foxes on the way back from them after closing time. There’s also a cover of a traditional song, collected from the singing of Michael Jones and Joe Strummer, Stay Free”.

My songs are part tin-pan alley, part two-lane highway.

I play folk festivals, theatres, bars, coffe houses and house concerts with my tunes and my tales. I also spend a lot of time helping build communities around music because I believe that’s something we all need.

These twelve songs were recorded in three days. I asked my best and oldest buddy, Frank Borg, bass/banjo player and singer-songwriter, to cross the sea that third and final day and join in on this album. Andi Almqvist, a Swedish singer-songwriter from Malmö and also a dear friend, came by, making the song “Union Army” sparkle with his voice and musical talent. To make the day just perfect, Svante Sjöblom joined the party and was thrown in on “One of these days”. All in all, this album was made in the true family & good friends way. I hope you will enjoy this album. And that not only this album, but all music you may listen to, will shine on you and make every day a better day.

.. Nearly two years after releasing the impressive “Weeks, Months, Years,” Ryan McMahon is in the midst of planning a very busy 2010.

His only desire, as it has always been, is to communicate through music; a talent, he has proven to all that have seen his performance, to be very good at.
